Let the hunt begin!

Howdy readers!

So back on October 7th, 2014 a new kind of book was created. The idea behind it was to make it more than just a story, but rather a whole multimedia socially interactive world. This involved the integration of an interactive online gaming environment, a soon to be released player vs player gps based game and the book itself. Within the book a series of puzzles were also hidden, with an added incentive of $500,000 in gold coins sitting in a bullet proof case in the Las Vegas hotel and casino, Caesars Palace.

The authors, James Frey and Nils Johnson-Shelton had the vision of a truly interactive book that makes the readers part of the story and its development in an alternative-world setting. In case you were wondering, yes it is the same James Frey who was called out by Oprah for embellishing A Million Little Pieces and My Friend Leonard, which were supposed to be autobiographical. He is also well known for his best selling series “The Lorien Legacies,” the first of which was turned into the movie I Am Number Four.

As part of the build-up publicity for the release of Endgame: The Calling, there were several videos and puzzles released, as well as the staging of a public event. Here we have “Fevenis Silverwind” opening a mystery package about endgame…

One of the puzzles released before the book’s October 7th debut would lead people to a public event around that time…

Naturally this is already setup for a movie and the trailer is out…

So that’s a pretty quick intro for what endgame is. In later posts I will talk more about this whole endgame experience that has been created, but mostly I want to talk about some of the strategies used in coding the endgame puzzles.

Please feel free to let me know what you think and also make any topic requests for future posts.

Stay tuned….
